Oregon in 48 Hours

Let me start off by saying 48 hours isn’t nearly enough time. But alas, I was on a tight schedule for some West Coast weddings, so I decided to sneak in a quick 2-day trip to Portland to visit my friend Lucy. Although 1 day was constant rain (typical PNW), it was still such a lovely trip. Below are some of the things I tackled -

Day 1: Oregon Coast

If you think the Pacific coast along California is beautiful, just you wait, because Oregon’s is just as stunning. This was the day we experienced constant rain showers, and I’ve already decided I need to go back to re-visit when there isn’t horizontal rain.

If you’re going straight West, the coast is only about 1 and a half hours away from Portland, so totally feasible for a day trip. We wanted to hit up the famous Canon Beach and so some hikes around the area. Canon Beach is supposed to look beautiful, but it was raining so hard along the beach, I could barely see it. It’s not even worth posting a picture because it was THAT rainy.

We ended up hitting up Ecola State Park, and the hikes there were lovely, and also helped provide some cover from the rain.

Day 2: Mount Hood

My flight to San Francisco wasn’t until 9pm, so we pretty much had all day. With this day boasting clearer skies, we decided to tackle the bold Mount Hood! And better yet, the drive there also involves several stops along some beautiful waterfalls and views. Below is the route we took along the Columbia River Highway:

Vista House —> Latourell Falls —> Bridal Veil Falls —> Multnomah Falls —> Hood River, Oregon for lunch @ Double Mountains Brewery —> Lake Trillium (Mount Hood viewpoint)

All of the waterfalls along the highway are ~10 minutes apart, and don’t require strenuous hiking. So, if you’re there over the weekend, it’ll get crowded.

If you can’t tell, Oregon is BEAUTIFUL, and there is so much left to explore. As I was leaving Portland, I was brainstorming with my friend Lucy on when I’d go visit again. I can’t recommend this area of the U.S. enough.

Portland/Oregon, don’t worry, I’ll be back
