Quintessential Vermont in the Fall

Call me basic, but love me some fall foliage.

It’s important to plan a trip to upstate New York/New England area early on, as hotels and lodges will fill up quick!

My friend Christina and I decided to settle on Wells, Vermont which borders the Vermont-New York state line and is only 3 and a half hours from the city! We stayed at a lake front studio, which you can read more about here. This Airbnb location was absolutely perfect - our host gave us detailed directions on how to find it in the night, and it opens up to the backyard on the lake. You pretty much wake up, and you see the lake right there out of the windows. Talk about #goals.

Wells is a great jumping point for exploring Green Mountain National Forest, as well as Lake George to the West! Since we were only there for a weekend, we focused on 2 hikes in Green Mountain National Forest.

  1. Haystack Mountain

  2. Lye Brook Falls Trailhead

Other Details that I recommend:

  • We grabbed dinner at The Barn Restaurant and Tavern

  • We grabbed brunch on Sunday at Pine Grove Diner.

Aaaand that’s a wrap! Note that there is so much of Vermont that is equally as beautiful. The area around Burlington is also stunning, so if you have more time to drive from New York, I would definitely add upper Vermont to the list!
